The Role of Network Rigidity on Crystallization Behaviour of Glasses
نویسندگان
چکیده
It is well known that oxide glasses build up continuous networks. Therefore the rigidity of the latter plays a key role in understanding glass properties. The network switches from floppy to rigid if the number of covalent bridges between the network formers exceeds a certain threshold value. One and the same structure could behave as rigid network in respect to some properties and could be floppy networks in respect to some other properties. Kinetics of phase transition (and most the nucleation processes) is very sensitive to the rigidity of the network. Some tiny floppy regions still exist inside the rigid network close above the threshold concentration. They can serve as active centers for the beginning of nucleation process. Much later, nucleation can appear in the rigid part of the network. Therefore, we predict a certain interval of concentration of rigid bounds in which a bimodal size distribution function of the formed phase will be observed. This prediction is confirmed by experimental data we find in literature.

متن کاملEffect of P2O5 on Crystallization Behavior and Chemical Resistance of Dental Glasses in the Li2O-SiO2-ZrO2 System
Commercial dental lithium disilicate based glass-ceramics containing various amounts of P2O5 were synthesized. Regarding the crystallization behavior and physico-chemical properties of the glasses, the optimum percent of P2O5 was determined.as 8 %wt. Crystallization behavior of the glasses was investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The micro-hardness a...

In the present research work, (60-x)V2O5-xNiO-40TeO2 amorphous bulk compositions with different molar percentages of 0≤x≤20 mol%, were prepared by well-known rapid melt-quenching method. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) at different heating rates (φ) was used to thermal analyze and to obtain more insight in to the thermal stability, glass forming tendency and so calorimetric characteris...

Nowadays, oxyfluoride glasses have received much attention from photonic researchers as they benefit from the advantages of both oxide and fluoride glasses (low phonon energy in parallel with high mechanical and chemical durability). The purppose of this paper was to study the different glass compositions in SiO2-Al2O3-K2O-BaF2 system and i...

Metallic glasses are kinetically metastable materials. Metallic glass is defined as “A liquid, which has been cooled into a state of rigidity without crystallizing”. Properties of metallic glasses differ form non metallic glasses. Ordinary glasses are made up of silica while metallic glasses are made of alloy metals. Ordinary glasses are transparent whereas metallic glasses are opaque. In ordin...
